Proclaim Your Candidacy for the GLA Board of Directors
The Glastonbury Landowners Association (GLA) Annual Election is just a few months away. Would you like to be a Board candidate and participate in the management of the growing community of Glastonbury?
Getting elected to the Board of Directors is a badge of honor that many Glastonbury property owners have earned. It is an ideal way to use your skills to serve your community, while gaining in-depth knowledge of how a non-profit LOA corporation functions. The GLA maintains community roads, collects assessments, enforces the Governing Documents, and oversees land development in Glastonbury.
There is a job for everyone with the GLA and all are welcome. Would you like safer and better maintained roads? Sign up for the Road Committee and gain an in-depth education for free. Individuals with construction experience may enjoy overseeing building projects while being on the Project Review Committee. Do you have secretarial skills? You could assist with clerical duties and producing meeting minutes. Do you have legal training or enjoy law research? You would be ideal for the Governing Documents Committee. Or are you a peacemaker and enjoy resolving conflicts? The Compliance Committee may be the perfect fit for you.
Volunteer service can foster a deep sense of satisfaction when jobs are done well. Working with the GLA can foster new friendships and is an ideal way to meet your neighbors.
You will never get bored as there is always more to learn. Several directors will assist you with the learning curve. The Forum has a wealth of resources you may use. Visit our Parcel List to view every parcel, landowner and their mailing address. At the bottom of the Parcel List page are more links to GLA Minutes, Plat Maps, Documents and links to several Montana State websites that are regularly used by directors. We can also put you in touch with GLA directors that have decades of experience and can answer your questions and provide guidance. We can also offer advice for any USPS mailings and/or Forum postings you would like to do.
The GLA Board needs your support. In 2023 the board took a turn for the worse and landowner services suffered. Many directors resigned in disgust. Several of the ones left refused to do any meaningful work; at every turn they resigned from their responsibilities. But they stayed on the board and refused to appoint new directors to fill empty seats. The phone system died, the email system works sporadically, and dysfunction is the common theme. The 2024 board refused to appoint a director as Treasurer or Secretary. Those positions still remain open. Most committees lack chairs because 2023 board holdovers are "too busy" to volunteer their time and effort.
You can make a difference. The deliberate dysfunction imposed upon all Glastonbury landowners by a handful of directors can stop if you volunteer your time and run for the board. It is possible to get a lot of meaningful work done that will benefit all landowners. If enough concerned community members volunteer their time and win seats, the dysfunctional directors can be isolated and out voted. The choice is stark. Do you want a few obstinate directors to prevent the board from providing services to all landowners while refusing to treat everyone equally? Do you want to see the "old boy" network that grants favors to a few finally put to rest? Glastonbury is rapidly changing from a rural community to a crowded complex of hodgepodge vacation homes. Our community is for sale to the highest bidder. Developers routinely flaunt our Governing Documents and circumvent Park County building rules. The GLA has approved building projects that lack County sanitation and electrical permits. Guest homes are being built that violate our Master Plan and are being used for vacation rentals. Some vacation homes accommodate up to 20 people, which puts tremendous wear and tear on our private road network. The dysfunctional directors refuse to install already purchased guardrail along dangerous roads even though the available funds are sitting in the bank. We need to protect our community and take it back from the developers and dysfunctional directors. The community needs your assistance, and now more than ever.
On August 25th, 2024 the GLA Board mailed a Nomination Packet to every landowner. If you need assistance filling the forms and compiling a bio, please let us know.
