It's Official - New GLA Election in June. All 2017 votes tossed.
It is official. The GLA will hold a new annual election on June 16th, 2018 in Emigrant Hall. All votes from the court postponed 2017 election will be tossed.
A GLA mailing will be going to all landowners in a few days that will contain nominating forms and election materials. Any landowner in good standing may run for the Board and the Forum has heard that Church Universal and Triumphant (CUT) followers will host at least 3 candidates for South and 3 candidates for North Glastonbury. Their stated aim is to "take back Glastonbury" presumably from the newcomers who do not follow CUT doctrine. Others have called the newcomers "atheists" and a "gang of four".
It is not yet known who will be running but the Forum will post candidate bios and related information.
The elected directors will serve for 1 1/2 years starting on June 16th, 2018 and serve until November 9th of 2020. The nomination period opens on April 2nd, 2018 and closes on May 2nd, 2018. Payments for second quarter assessments and all past due assessments, must be received by April 30th, 2018. Anyone who has a past due amount after April 30th will NOT be eligible to be a candidate or to vote on June 16. Some folks were disqualified last time for owing mere pennies in past due assessments and finance charges. Currently about 25% of all landowners are behind in their assessments and not qualified to cast votes.
Two Ombudsmen will also be elected for a 6 month term that ends on November 10th, 2018.
An election mailing with absentee and proxy ballots will be mailed around the 12th of May, 2018.
The tossing of all 2017 votes is a big win for Kathleen Rakela who stopped the 2017 election via a court restraining order. At that time she was just a write-in candidate courtesy of Election Chair Charlene Murphy. Murphy insisted at the October 2017 GLA Board meeting that since landowners had already voted for Rakela whose candidacy was declared invalid, that a new ballot be mailed so all landowners could vote for Rakela as a write in candidate. Rakela is now in good standing and will no doubt have her name on the new ballot. The landowner's wishes and sacred votes of 2017 will go to the "dustbin of history".
