High South Glastonbury Snow Report - Nov 29 6:15 PM Currently it is 12 degrees above zero Fahrenheit and a steady snow is falling. When I went to the Post Office at 3 PM all of High South Glastonbury roads were neither plowed nor sanded. Three inches of snow was on the ground at that time. The roads were slippery and four wheel drive was a necessity all the way to Route 89.
Where Dry Creek Road turns to dirt and ascends a steep hill I saw sideways tire tracks and spin out digs. On the paved section of Dry Creek road the county had plowed all of the road and sanded portions. Unfortunately for the owner of a large red pickup truck one curve was not sanded. He slid off the road, down a steep embankment and laid his truck on its side. He was not injured.
Route 89 was two asphalt tire tracks in both directions. Snow packed the center and the sides of the road.
On the way back a large tow truck was pulling the flipped red truck up the steep embankment it rolled off of. The red truck clearly needed some work before it was road worthy again.
Hercules and Sagittarius Skyway were covered with packed snow. At one point I had to drive in a ditch on the side of Sagittarius Skyway to allow an oncoming truck to pass. If he slid off the road he would fall 200 feet straight down. Guardrails would be a nice safety upgrade for Sagittarius Skyway.
Four to six inches of snow is predicted to fall overnight. Then the temperatures will begin to moderate with the highs in the upper 30's by early next week.
Drive safely. High South roads are slippery and have yet to be maintained.

High South Snow Report November 30th, 2019 9:15 AM Currently it is 13 degrees above zero in High South Glastonbury. Four inches of fresh snow fell since 6 PM yesterday. The total accumulation from yesterday and last night is eight inches.
The heaviest snow appears to have passed by and just flurries are falling now. The forecast calls for the snow to end by noon and then gradually clearing skies. Highs should be in the upper 30's on Sunday and into next week.
At 6:50 AM this morning John Carp, the North Glastonbury Road Chair, sent an email to Road Committee members Dennis Riley, Walter Wunsch, Newman Brozovosky, Gerald Dubiel, Richard Johnson, Dave Hinks and South Glastonbury Road Chair Ken Hurley. The email follows:
Dale and crew work for Standish Excavation which has a contract for Glastonbury plowing.
Drive safely. It will take a few hours for all Glastonbury platted roads to be plowed. High South is usually last on the plowing list and the roads here are still covered in fresh snow.

High South Snow Report - December 1st, 2019 9:00 AM The temperature is currently 16 degrees above zero, Fahrenheit. The skies are bright and sunny. Winds are gusting to 50 miles per hour and yesterday's snow is drifting. The National Weather Service has issued a Travel Advisory for today. They expect the high winds to continue until 2 PM. Visibility could drop to less than half a mile and travel could be difficult to impossible.
Sagittarius Skyway was not plowed yesterday; 8 inches of snow still sits on the road. A bronze pickup truck appears to be stuck in a ditch halfway up the one an a half lane road. It has been there since yesterday afternoon.
High South is prone to drifting and many portions of Hercules and Sagittarius Skyway will require digging out.
Low South is also prone to drifting especially along Dry Creek Road and Mountain Sky property. The 2017 Road Committee installed over 1,000 feet of seasonal snow fencing along that section of road. That effectively blocked the drifts from encroaching upon Dry Creek Road. The 2018 and 2019 Road Committees did not reinstall the seasonal snow fencing.
The hill on Leo Drive needs sanding; it is a frequent slippery and dangerous spot.
Drive safely. It could be a long winter in Glastonbury.

High South Snow Report - December 1st Update At 9:00 AM the Forum notified area landowners and the Glastonbury Landowner's Association Board of Directors and Road Committee that High South on Sagittarius Skyway had not been plowed yet. The big orange two wheel drive snow plow that belongs to Standish Excavation was spotted plowing Sagittarius Skyway at 10:15 this morning. In the photo below the snowplow is carefully maneuvering around a truck that appears to be stuck in a roadside ditch. The narrow shelf road is carved out of a steep hillside. One slip and the snowplow could plummet off the edge of the road and roll down a 100 foot embankment. Guardrails would make the road safer for landowner travel and snow removal.
Many thanks for the prompt service from Chad Standish and the GLA.
