High South Glastonbury Snow Report - Feb 3, 2020 8:30 AM
It is a frosty 14 degrees above zero Fahrenheit in High South Glastonbury. Snow showers yesterday and overnight intermittently blanketed High South with 3 inches of light, dry powder snow. The sky is cloudy and expected to clear later this afternoon.
Strong winds yesterday evening and this morning have caused much drifting.
The open sections of Sagittarius Skyway are blown free of snow. This afternoon I will travel to the Post Office and upon my safe return, will post a follow up note to this snow report.
There was an unconfirmed report of a tree blown down on Saturday night and blocking a road in High South. I will check into that this afternoon.
Drifting snow may become a bigger problem as the week progresses. A foot of snow is predicted for Wednesday, Thursday and into Friday.
The 2020 GLA Road Committee has not installed temporary snow fencing on Mountain Sky property along Dry Creek Road in Low South Glastonbury. The GLA Board has received requests for installation and routine maintenance of snow fencing but no work has yet commenced. Snow drifting over Dry Creek Road could close the only access road for South Glastonbury.
The 2017 GLA Road Committee organized community volunteers and installed over 3,000 feet of snow fencing in Glastonbury. Much of that fencing needs routine maintenance to operate effectively. Sections have blown apart and fencing is laying on the ground. Animals have trampled and broken some slats. A few 10 to 20 feet sections must be replaced. Other sections can be saved if they are quickly secured to posts.
Please drive safely. Snow related, vehicle accidents, frequently happen in Glastonbury.
