2023 GLA Board Election - Introduction
What if the Glastonbury Landowners Association (GLA) held an election and nobody voted? We may come close to that in 2023. A drove of current GLA Board members resigned over the past 9 months. More than at any time in the history of the GLA. Some were perennial quitters as this was their second or even third resignation from the board. Others simply left rather than take up the slack. Most disturbingly several officers quit and abandoned their critical responsibilities. The GLA was like the Titanic and many could not wait to abandon the ship and landowners they promised to serve.
The 2023 Annual Election finds nine open director positions that must be filled. Just four landowners have signed on as candidates for director. Five director positions are open in South Glastonbury and just three candidates are running. In North Glastonbury four director positions are open and just one candidate is running.
Several more candidates were nominated by other landowners. But their names have not appeared on the official ballots. Many landowners have not received their ballots either. They were scheduled to be mailed on September 23, 2023.
Some landowners may still step forward as write-in candidates. If the number of candidates does not exceed the number of open positions, they could be elected if they are in "good standing" and received just one vote.
On Sunday, October 1st you may meet the courageous four declared candidates at Emigrant Hall from 3 to 5 p.m. You may visit in person, call in, or use Zoom. The meeting ID is 619 079 2223 and the passcode is 2023. The call-in phone number is 1-346-248-7799.
The Forum contacted the GLA Board for a candidate list several times. We never received a response.
