Administrator's Note: Daniel O'Connell asked the Forum to post the below Landowner Petition Concerns.
On August 8th, the Glastonbury Landowners Association Board of Directors received a member petition reportedly signed by approx. 36 members. A blank copy of this petition, as posted on a GLFPC webpage, asks for "three meetings of members” to discuss GLA changes and issues with its "governing documents.”
Recently, several members report that they received a phone call from GLA Board President–Charlotte Mizzi asking them to remove their names from that member petition. Gwen & Patricia Owens, Pedro Penardo, Aza Ziegler and several other members reported that Mizzi called them. Here is what she said: “This is Charlotte Mizzi. I’m not calling for the Board." "I'm calling about a petition you signed with the O'Connells and you might not have understood what it meant.” Do you want to remove your name from the petition?” "Some people have [already] withdrawn their names. So please give me a call.”
Some petition signers out of concern called Val O’Connell asking her to respond. O’Connell gave this explanation:
"Mizzi can not remove names from the member petition, especially since the GLA Board only received a copy of our member petition. Our original petition remains in the possession of members, not the Board, so that the GLA Board could not alter our member petition as Mizzi is attempting to do by removing names. The Board has no authority to alter any petition, and all they can do is to verify petition signers in good standing or not. That is the only authority they have. But it is very troubling to hear that Charlotte Mizzi is acting without Board authority to try to alter a member petition.”
A few GLA Board members including Ed Dobrowski verified that the Board had no meeting, gave no vote, and did not know that Charlotte Mizzi was asking members to remove their names from the O'Connell member petition. Members are now being asked to support the possibility of an emergency lawsuit if the GLA Board refuses to honor their member petition. The GLA Board will have a Board meeting Monday September 12th at Emigrant Hall to discuss the “O’Connell Petition” and other issues.
