Debra DeGraaf for North Glastonbury Director
My name is Debra DeGraaf and I live with my husband in North Glastonbury. I would like to be a director on the GLA because of my past work and life experiences. The challenges faced during my various career choiceshave given the skills to be an effective and efficient board member while listening to all GLA members equally and fairly. For example, I taught for 17 years and during that time I also served on curriculum committees and wrote curriculum. As a teacher, I worked with students, parents, and administration to solve budgetary problems to provide the best experience for the students. Lastly, I worked with union representatives to negotiate contractsfor the teachers.
After teaching, my family opened and operated Howlin' Hounds Cafe in Emigrant. I was responsible for training and hiring staff, compiling weekly orders for vendors, preparing the menu & meals for the Meals on Wheels program, catering for locals and tourists. I am currently the Meals on Wheels / Paradise Valley
coordinator. All of these duties in the restaurant require great organizational and customer relations skills.
The skills, qualifications and interests that I believe will assist me in serving as a board member are outlined in the aforementioned paragraphs. In addition to my organizational, management, and interpersonal relationship skills, if elected I will represent the GLA with transparency and integrity. I believe that the GLA is
a financial investment for all of us and all of us should be treated equitably. I want to talk and LISTEN to landowners, not talk at them; that's disrespectful.
Some of what I hope to accomplish while serving the community on the board, I have already addressed. However, my main goals are road improvement and equal representation and treatment of all GLA members.
