Administrator's Note: Sally Muto gave us permission to publish her letter to the GLA Board concerning the O'Connell threat of "having a plan to kill everyone you meet" that was spoken in rage at the September 11th, 2017 GLA Board meeting.
Her letter follows:
Board of Directors / Legal Committee
I was not at the August Board meeting which prompted Val O'Connell's complaint toward Dennis Riley, the President, but listening on the phone. However, I was at the September meeting where Dan O'Connell threatened physical retaliation to Dennis Riley, and others, in his defense of his wife Val.
For years the O'Connells have disrupted meetings with their continued outbursts to Board members and landowners that attend the meetings. When asked repeatedly to be quiet this seems to cause more disruption and louder protests on their part. Any attempt to curtail their rude behavior brings on more confrontation and disruption. She does not respect other landowners and has little concern for the chaotic atmosphere she and her husband create.
These conditions have gone on long enough (years) and needs to be addressed in a way that would protect the rest of the landowners from outright fear to extreme discomfort at being at the meetings. When landowners ask others to walk them to their cars, that in and of itself, should be a red flag to the Board that action needs to be taken.
In my opinion a restraining order is required to curtail their rude and objectionable behavior. The threatening comments made to Dennis Riley have taken this situation to a whole new level. If these measures are not pursued by the Board, it is doing a disservice to the other landowners who attend the meetings for information concerning their Association's business.
If a restraining order is not implemented by the Board, and anything should happen concerning the safety of the people attending these meetings, you the Board are placing GLA in a serious liability issue. God forbid that something happens to any landowner during one of the meetings. The escalating tensions at these meetings requires serious and legal action on the part of the Board.
