If You Cannot Win by the Rules, Change The Rules to Win.
Is This Cheating? Is it Honest?
Is This Cheating? Is it Honest?
The GLA Board dominated by Church Universal and Triumphant (CUT) members has a long history of bending to the will of fellow church members. For decades past due assessments were allowed to accumulate with impunity. Today over 1/4 of a million dollars in assessments are past due. Many landowners were given sweetheart deals and paid little to no interest and penalties on their past due assessments when they wanted to sell their land.
The GLA Board has routinely passed over highly qualified candidates when considering appointments for sitting members who resign. Instead they chose far less impressive candidates simply because they were affiliated with CUT.
Occasionally an issue comes up that CUT members do not get there way on. If they lose on the first vote they simply keep voting until the issue turns their way. Opening the meetings with a prayer was one such issue.
The 2016 Annual Election was a shameful debacle. At least one landowner was allowed to vote on multiple parcels even though she was in violation of the Covenants and thus ineligible to vote at all. The recount yielded an extra ballot that was supposedly missed the first time around. Critical evidence was discarded which prevented a check and balance system. The dubious results were certified by Charlene Murphy the GLA Board Secretary as valid.
2017 looks to top everything else CUT members have done to hold on to power and maintain control of Glastonbury. Today, October 28th, 2017 a new ballot was sent to all South Glastonbury landowners. One CUT affiliated candidate, Kathleen Rakela, was disqualified as a checked box candidate because she violated the rules (covenants) we all agreed to follow when we purchased land in Glastonbury. Many landowners cast their ballots before Rakela was disqualified. The "new" ballot will allow landowners who voted for her the first time around, to vote for her again as a write-in candidate. It was a shrewd Machiavellian maneuver by GLA Board Secretary Charlene Murphy who first introduced the idea at the October 9th Board meeting and then guided it through to completion. Landowners were understandably completely left out of the process.
Our entire Annual Election was moved up one month to benefit one candidate who was caught breaking the rules. All landowners must wait another month for election results, a new Board will only have 3 days to prepare for their seats, all committees will be in disarray and multiple long distance landowners will arrive at a locked and dark Emigrant Hall on November 11th.
When cheaters break the rules should they pay a price? If they are affiliated with CUT it appears they can break the rules as they wish and not suffer any consequences. In fact, CUT Board members often CHANGE THE RULES so cheaters are rewarded for their cheating.
What do you think? Will you vote for CUT candidates this year? Should the GLA Board be disbanded and dissolved? Should you even pay your assessments to a CUT dominated organization that does not share common values of decency and fair play? These and many more questions are ones we commonly hear from readers. Let us know what you think.
