14 Inches and Snow is Still Falling in High South Glastonbury At 3:14 PM on Friday January 25th, 2018 snow is still falling steadily. Yesterday at this time 8 inches had fallen and we saw the big orange plow struggling up Sagittarius Skyway. Somehow that two wheel drive behemoth made it around the bend and presumably continued up the final mile of road. The driver had a fearful and intent countenance when he passed me. About an hour and a half later I saw him driving down Hercules past SpecTec with a more relaxed look.
Fred Counts, the contracted snow plow driver for the GLA for the past two years, sold his big orange plow to Chad Standish who is now responsible for plowing Glastonbury roads. At the last Road Committee meeting ways for the GLA to "get out of the snow plowing business" were discussed.
Six more inches of snow has fallen since the last plowing. The roads are getting slippery. More snow is predicted for the weekend going into next week. Currently it is 31 degrees above zero with little wind.
Drive carefully if you must at all.

The total accumulation for the storms that passed through Glastonbury from January 25th to the 29th was 18 inches in High South. High winds from January 29th to February 1st caused substantial drifting in High South and along Dry Creek Road in Low South. All the drifts were plowed back on January 31st. Then the winds picked up again overnight...More snow is predicted for February 3rd through the 5th.
