Grizzly Bears Are On The Move - Confrontations Expected Warm weather has arrived and grizzly bears are on the move into areas where people and livestock reside. Wyoming and Idaho officials approved hunting last year but were blocked by a federal judge. Previously confined to remote wilderness areas grizzly bears are expanding their territory at a rapid rate. Last year two grizzlies viciously attacked and tore apart a young deer in the middle of Dry Creek road in view of year round homes. Children often walk Dry Creek road after the school bus drops them off by route 89.
The two bears charged people who stopped their cars. They showed no fear of people and exhibited savage behavior. As a "protected species" they have no memory of ever being hunted and thus see themselves at the top of the food chain. It is not surprising that so many hikers have died in Yellowstone from bear attacks. Some were torn apart and eaten by the killer bears.
The long term goal of the environmentalists is to expand and connect grizzly bear populations throughout the Rocky Mountain Range. If the bears are confined to Yellowstone Park their genetic diversity will decline and that could doom their population.
