Candidate Profile - Alicia Roskind for South Glastonbury Director
On January 31, 2019, Robert Roskind signed a Contract for Deed for his daughter, Alicia Roskind. Although not yet a landowner in the traditional sense, Alicia officially became a member of the Community of Glastonbury just this year on the last day of January in 2019. By early fall, she was a candidate for the Glastonbury Landowner's Association (GLA) Board of Directors.
The Daily Tar Heel reported in 2015 that "Robert Roskind, owner of Oasis Coffee Shop in Carr Mill Mall, believes that the lack of love in the world is what has made living in it so difficult." The article goes on to state "Alicia Roskind, helped create the One Love Foundation with her dad and now owns her own yoga studio in Charlotte, {North Carolina} called Okra."
The article continues, "She has helped host many of the foundation’s 200 One Love Events, which have been held all across the United States and in Jamaica, since she was 14 years old". In The Daily Tar Heel article Alicia stated, “I feel that both my parents just raised me to think and live in this One Love environment. It has kept me really calm, level and balanced to where I know it has influence in everything I do".

In 2017, Robert Roskind came under public scrutiny from the Pew Foundation for selling thousands of drinks laced with Kratom at his North Carolina Oasis Coffee Shop. Kratom (pronounced KRAY-dum) is an opioid-like herb that according to Pew writer Christine Vestal, "offers pain relief and mood enhancement, similar to prescription painkillers." Although many cities and states have banned the drug Kratom is still legal in Montana. The FDA has issued a public health warning and continues to seize the drug at US ports.
In 2019 an Oasis coffee shop was opened in downtown Livingston.
Her father is also the author of several One Love books that many have described as parallel to the Teachings of the Ascended Masters, as presented by Church Universal and Triumphant (CUT).
Alicia founded Okra in 2012, when she was just 25 years old. The name is derived from the plant Okra which grows well in North Carolina. According to Alicia, she wanted two words to be associated with her yoga studio: "local" and "home." Okra expanded to include a Massage Parlor and store named Gumbo. In 2016, Alicia sold her share of Okra. She spent the next three years traveling around the world. Then, in her own words she "fell in love with Paradise Valley."

Her official GLA bio follows:
In my previous career, I owned two successful business in Charlotte, North Carolina. Okra is a yoga, massage, and tea and coffee lounge, and Gumbo: The Store is a retain store providing sustainable and active goods for the community. I served on the Plaza Midwood Neighborhood Association in Charlotte, NC for a three-year term during my time in Charlotte. I only lived in that neighborhood for one of those years. In 2016, I sold the majority share in my businesses and traveled the world for three years before I fell in love with Paradise Valley, and moved to South Glastonbury in March 2018.
As a board member, I hope to bring more diversity to the board and a fresh outlook. I am new to the neighborhood and community, and I believe I can bring a fresh perspective and outlook to the board. I’ve owned and created multiple businesses, so I have a grounded ability to find solutions, work in teams, and create harmony.
