High South Glastonbury Snow Report - Nov 1, 2019 8 AM
A light snow fell overnight dropping 3 inches on High South Glastonbury. The temperature is currently 20 degrees Fahrenheit. The sky is clear and the sun is just starting to peek over the eastern Absoraka Mountains. Temperatures are expected to warm into the low 40's by afternoon and some of the fresh snow will melt.
The ground and roads are frozen so snow is starting to accumulate. Parts of Upper Hercules past SpecTec have packed snow across the road and are slippery. Warmer temperatures will melt some snow and add to the ice layer forming on the road surface. Four wheel drive is required from now until the roads clear in April.

Wandering cows have been spotted along Upper Hercules Road. At night the black behemoths can be difficult to see. Please use caution when driving.
Frozen roads are a prerequisite for plowing. Unfortunately the roads past SpecTec are in poor shape this year. They were not graded in 2019 and strings of pot holes frequently stretch from edge to edge. The ditches were not cleaned nor was the roadside grass seriously mowed. No weed spraying has been done for five years either. Some of the side roads including Sagittarius Skyway have not been graded for two years. As a result plowing will be much more difficult, dangerous and expensive for the winter of 2019/2020 than if the roads were properly maintained. The tall weeds and grass will catch the snow and reinforce frozen snowbanks along the sides of the road. Potholes can snag snow plow blades and cause expensive damage. Potholes also damage vehicle suspensions and can cause accidents.
The Glastonbury Landowner's Association (GLA) Annual Election is just 8 days away. The Forum has several articles and candidate profiles at the below link. All of the South Glastonbury candidates are included. North Glastonbury candidates Charlotte Mizzi and Claudette Dirkers were recently added. A story concerning the possibility of the 2019 Election being cancelled is also included.
The Golemeyer Creek illegal excavation which resulted in the GLA violating the federal Clean Water Act is simmering in the background. According to the GLA, legal action may be coming. A list of informative articles in chronological order is at the below link:
Will you be out of town or unable to make it to the GLA Annual Election on November 9th at Emigrant Hall? Ideally every landowner should vote but for many reasons, not all landowners do. For your convenience you can now cast your vote via the Forum up to 8 AM on Election day. For details click on the below link:
Please drive safely and allow for extra time to get up or down the mountain. It looks to be a long winter this year.
