Community Member Michael Laverty Passes On The Irishman he was called. I first met Michael and his wife Sheila at a Glastonbury Landowners For Positive Change meeting in 2014. They emigrated from East Haven, Connecticut, the town next to where I grew up in Connecticut. They were friendly, funny and always a pleasure to associate with. Michael was originally from Ireland and retained his brogue.
What I remember most about Michael was his intense patriotism for his adopted country; America. He would often bring a beautiful, gold trimmed American flag to GLA meetings and insist that the Pledge of Allegiance be recited. Eventually an American flag found a home inside Emigrant Hall. Before Michael, no one recited the pledge. In his own way Michael changed our community and the lives of all that knew him.
Michael passed away on July 24th, 2020 at the age of 76. He will be missed by many. May God continue to bless you Michael and all your family.
