Landowners Present a Petition to the GLA to Resume 2020 Annual Election
On December 30th, 2020, a hardy and determined band of landowners presented a petition to the Glastonbury Landowner's Association (GLA) Board to hold a Special Meeting of the Members to resume the 2020 Annual Election. Just 5% of the membership interests in good standing, about 25, are needed for a Special Meeting to happen. In just three days, a small group of Glastonbury landowners collected 51 signatures for their petition. They braved cold and snow, went door to door, phoned friends and neighbors, emailed landowners across the country and succeeded by getting over twice the number of signatures required. One woman slipped on ice and landed on her knee that recently had surgery. Undaunted, she picked herself up, brushed off the snow and limped onward to collect more signatures. Other landowners were inspired by the group's determination, purpose and courage. They in turn visited more Glastonbury residents and added multiple names to the final petition.
Just past 6 pm on December 30th the petition was given to a GLA Board member who in turn, presented it to the Board. The Board must inspect the petition, validate the names and then schedule a Special Meeting of the Members to take place within 30 days. The granting of the meeting is automatic per the Restated Bylaws Article V (C). The Board only needs to determine that the names are valid and most, more than the 5% minimum, are members in good standing. Then they must set a date for the meeting to occur within 30 days. To that end, the Director who submitted the petition to the GLA Board by email, also made a motion to have the meeting on Saturday January 23, 2021. He urged the Board to vote on the Motion on December 31, 2020.
This is a continuing story and we will add more as events unfold.
