Motion Introduced to Replace Mizzi as Secretary with Dirkers

On April 9, 2021 Director Tim Brockett introduced a motion to retire Charlotte Mizzi as GLA Board Secretary and replace her with Claudette Dirkers. Brockett stated:

I believe the current secretary is performing poorly. Therefore I think she should be replaced by the very competent and knowledgeable Claudette Dirkers.
The combination of John McAlister as Treasurer and Claudette Dirkers as secretary is just what we need to get the GLA board moving again.
Therefore I make a motion:

That Charlotte Mizzi be removed as GLA Board secretary and Claudette Dirkers become our new board secretary. Upon a second I vote yes.

If Dirkers becomes our new secretary I would be honored to work with her by assuming my old duties as webmaster.

The motion was quickly seconded by Jerry Ladewig. Claudette Dirkers voted yes and said:

I am willing to take the job, and I would immediately work with the board to get the backlog of minutes approved.

Here is the applicable Bylaw regarding the removal of an officer:

2020 Restated Bylaws
ARTICLE VII OFFICERS

* C. Removal. Any officer or agent elected or appointed by the Board of Directors may be removed by the Board of Directors at any time, with or without cause, whenever in its judgment the best interest of the Association would be served thereby, by the affirmative vote of a majority of the entire Board."

John McAlister also voted yes. Gerald Dubiel voted no.

On Saturday evening Director Brockett added:

Thanks to everyone who has voted. The motion expires on Monday afternoon. Several board members still have not voted.

I hope you are weighing your decision carefully. Charlotte has had a difficult time since the GLA Administrative Assistant Karleeen McSherry resigned. Bringing in Claudette Dirkersto to replace Charlotte Mizzi will reinvigorate the role of Secretary. Claudette is still young and has the energy of a thoroughbred race horse. Once she gets running we will have the minutes up to date, finances listed on the website, minutes and meetings notices sent to landowners, the year end reports and John McAlister's letter will get mailed too. And quickly. Claudette Dirkers is an amazing bundle of hard work and energy.

Charlotte Mizzi deserves a rest too. I think a break will be good for her health and outlook.

Let's get Claudette Dirkers working as GLA Secretary ASAP!

Two more GLA Board members voted on the above motion. Andrea Sedlak voted yes and asked Mizzi to resign. Charlotte Mizzi voted no stating it was "for the record". Her vote may not count because of the obvious conflict of interest. The motion expires on Monday afternoon. Director Accatino and Brozovsky have not voted yet.

Motion Fails - Mizzi Remains GLA Secretary

All 10 GLA Board members voted and along familiar lines. The old timers; Accatino, Dobrowski, Dubiel, Mizzi and Brozovsky all voted against replacing Charlotte Mizzi with Claudette Dirkers. The new comers all voted to replace Mizzi with Dirkers. The vote was a tie and thus failed. The GLA Board deadlock continues.

Director Brockett addressed the GLA Board vote total by stating:

The votes are in and they are revealing. The old timers want to keep the current secretary, one of their own, despite being offered a younger, more energetic and brighter candidate. The new comers want the best person for the job.
Dirkers has proven herself many times over. But the old timers refused her for a seat on the board a few years back. Then they refused her a position on Project Review, refused her as Road Chair and now the secretary’s position. Why?

The decay will continue.
