A Motion To Create Two Boards From The GLA is Presented
Glastonbury Landowner Association (GLA) board director Tim Brockett released a statement tonight. Brockett is advocating that the current GLA board change with the times to better serve all landowners. He is asking fellow board members to vote on a motion that would start a process to create a South Glastonbury board and a separate North Glastonbury board from the existing GLA board. All of the Governing Documents would remain in force for all landowners. The Legal Committee would be assigned the task of deciding how to create two boards from one. The GLA would then hold a Special Meeting of the Members where everyone could vote on the recommendation.
Brockett stated:
It has become increasingly apparent to me and many landowners that the GLA is no longer a functioning board. The reasons are many and ones everyone is familiar with. Landowners are taking notice and many want to dissolve the GLA. That number is increasing with every passing week.
I believe that the best path forward is to understand that the GLA must change with our growing community. Rather than dissolve the GLA I would like to see two separate boards created; one for North Glastonbury (NG) and one for South Glastonbury (SG). SG could further divide into Low South and High South districts if landowners wanted that.
All of our Governing Documents and Covenants would remain in force for both NG and SG if two boards were created from one. Agreements could be included so NG landowners could still access community property in SG and travel on SG roads. And vice versa for SG landowners traveling on NG roads.
What would change is that each volunteer board would have jurisdiction over either SG or NG. That will break the current deadlock and allow both NG and SG to move forward with Road Maintenance and other essential services. It will also save landowners tens of thousands of dollars in legal costs to defend the current lawsuits.
Therefore I make a motion that:
The GLA Board understands that it is in the best interests of a majority of landowners for two boards to be created from the current GLA Board; one for North Glastonbury and one for South Glastonbury. Therefore the GLA Board assigns the task of creating two boards to the Legal Committee and asks for a written plan in 60 days that can be presented to landowners at a Special Meeting of the Members where a vote will be taken.
If some legal Committee members would like to tweak this motion without changing the action, I am open to that and will resubmit the agreed upon tweaked motion.
Otherwise upon a second I vote yes.
