Elections Cancelled Again
Board Vacancies Will Not Be Filled - Board Dysfunction Perpetuated Indefinitely
Board Vacancies Will Not Be Filled - Board Dysfunction Perpetuated Indefinitely
On October 12, 2021 President/Vice President/Treasurer John McAlister sent the following email to Glastonbury landowners:
John McAlister is one of the Dissolution lawsuit litigants. That lawsuit seeks to destroy Glastonbury by dissolving the Glastonbury Landowner's Association (GLA) or dividing it into two separate organizations; GLA-South and GLA-North. McAlister, several GLA directors and other litigants recently signed on to an agreement that will allow the court to decide Glastonbury's fate. No vote will be allowed for landowners even though the Covenants require a 51% yes vote to change the Covenants. The "secret" agreement is now public and may be downloaded here.
Dear Landowner,
The GLA Board has cancelled the election of landowners to fill open positions on the Board under the conditions of the mediated settlement between petitioners for the dissolution/separation of the Glastonbury Landowners Association and the Glastonbury Landowners Board. Until Judge Gilbert issues a final ruling on the case, the Board will undertake normal business but will not add new members.
Because the principle reason for the October 13th GLA Board meeting was this election, we have cancelled the meeting.
Best regards,
John McAlister
VP & Treasurer, GLA

Contrary to McAlister's claim that "The GLA Board has cancelled the election of landowners to fill open positions" the board never made a motion or voted on that proposal. His statement that "the Board will undertake normal business" until Judge Gilbert renders a ruling is also false. Per the terms of the "secret" agreement the GLA board is ONLY allowed to perform a few basic functions. Section 7 of Exhibit A of the Resolution states:
In other words, the Glastonbury Board will undertake no business, other than essential functions to include only the following:
a. Payment of due bills.
b. Prosecution/defense of pending lawsuits and assessments.
c. Approval of necessary road maintenance and snow plowing agreements.
d. Project approval by landowners.

No other business is allowed. That means no resumption of the 2020 postponed annual election, no appointments of new members to the board even though several highly qualified landowners stepped forward with resumes, minutes will not be approved so landowners will not know what is going on, newsletters will not be sent, no 2021 annual election, etc. The "secret" agreement provides for a resumption of GLA board dysfunction which ironically is what the Dissolution lawsuit litigants used as their main reason to seek the destruction of Glastonbury.
Once the deadlock was broken on August 23rd many landowners held out hope for a brighter future. The old president and secretary were removed from office and replaced by President Sedlak and Secretary Dirkers. Ed Dobrowski resigned and the board was down to nine members. A motion was passed to fill the three open positions. Several landowners applied with detailed and robust resumes. They have all been notified along with landowners that dysfunction will be restored until the court renders a final ruling. A final ruling could take up to 18 months.
