E. C. Abbott ("Teddy Blue") 1860-1939 I first read some of the chapters from "We Pointed Them North - Recollections of a Cowpuncher" as serial reprints in the Montana Pioneer, the local monthly newspaper. I enjoyed the tales of Teddy Blue enough to find and purchase a copy of his book, first published in 1939, the year he died. These are the stories of the first long-horn cattle drives up the trail from Texas to Montana when there were no fences in all the northern ranges territory, and the ensuing years of ranching in northern Montana. "This is the story of a wild and happy cowboy without a care, a man who knew 'em all - the harlots and the high rollers, the Cheyenne and Sioux, the cussin' and the cattle - a fellow whose life was an uproarious adventure that you must on no account miss sharing." ~ The English Westerners Brand Book. Sample courtesy of the Montana Pioneer If you know of other good reads from this era, please share.
