This is information received on January 30 via email from the Community Bulletin Board. I am posting it here as a reminder to everyone to be vigilant. We are going to be experiencing more of this behavior as the economy worsens. Perhaps it is time to establish neighborhood watches? If you agree, add your comments or suggestions on how to deal with incidents like this to this thread.
Beware of prowlers in the area.
The following is a report from a resident who lives at Avalon that witnessed some prowlers in the area. Please be aware of this and take the proper precautions.
Just a FYI...three young skinny (mid 20's) guys were casing my apartment building and looking at me through my bedroom window late this morning in Emigrant. The sheriff said guys in the area have been breaking in to what they think are senior centers and senior's homes in search of drugs (esp. pain killers). Their car sped off before our super could get a plate but its about a '94 GM 2 door primered silver or dusty green car. One was wearing a grey hoodie, another, a black hoodie unzipped with light colored shirts and blue jeans, the third one sprinted past my window before I caught sight of him for an ID. Please keep your car doors locked as well as your residence. If you know these young men let them know many who live here are retired military; packing guns and know how to use them. If they want diuretics, laxatives or sleeping pills bring it on but far cheaper to buy them at Shopko than risk getting shot. No pain meds over 2 years now. Folks here avoid doctors and prefer to heal their aches and pains with raw and fermented and organic foods and remedies. In the spirit of community please be vigilant for any of your senior neighbors who might be targeted.
