GLA Rescinds their 20 Vote Minimum Edict
The Forun can now confirm that the Glastonbury Landowner's Association (GLA) Board has officially rescinded their 20 Vote Minimum Edict. According to GLA President Alicia Roskind Dearing the 20 Vote Minimum was rescinded on November 28, 2023. President Dearing said that she "hope(s) that this year we can revisit some sort of minimum moving forward". She did not acknowledge that GLA Bylaws and Montana State law were violated. Director Sedlak will not be censured either for falsely presenting a motion as a vote on a "Procedure" which ultimately allowed the GLA Board to manipulate the Annual Election results.
No mention was made in a board email to landowners about the GLA's vote to rescind the 20 Vote Edict. Neither was there any acknowledgment that enough candidates received votes so all vacant board seats could be filled.
The next step for the current GLA Board is to contact all winning and tied candidates and ask if they are willing to serve. Candidates who are tied and wish to serve will have a choice of a coin toss or a runoff election per GLA Bylaws. If any vacant seats remain they can be filled by 2024 GLA Board appointments in 60 to 90 days. Finally, the Annual Election must be re-certified to reflect accurately the will of the voters.
Several landowners spoke out against the 20 Vote Edict at the last GLA meeting. They also submitted written comments to the GLA. The only people supporting the 20 Vote Edict were some sitting members and the President of the GLA Board. Landowners offered evidence and factual arguments that showed the Edict violated GLA Governing Documents and the Montana Annotated Code. The courageous few won the debate and now all landowner votes will be counted and be of consequence. The GLA Board is not above the law and does not have the right to nullify votes and cancel candidates.
Congratulations to the courageous few who changed the course of the 2023 Annual Election and ensured that all landowner votes would be counted. Congratulations to the candidates who ran for the GLA Board and earned the vote(s) of landowners.
Best wishes to the 2024 GLA Board and the landowners they serve.
