Doug Gill Elected President of the GLA
Just one month after losing a close GLA Presidential Election Doug Gill won a second election. Alicia Roskind Dearing was elected as the GLA President in December 2023. At the January Glastonbury Landowners Association board meeting, Roskind announced she was quitting as President but would continue as a director. Roskind previously quit as director before attending her first GLA board meeting several years ago. Gill's term began on February 1, 2024. He released a Vision Statement which said:
The next GLA Board meeting is on February 21, 2024 at 7 pm. It will be a Zoom-only meeting. The meeting ID is 619 079 2223 Passcode is 2023
Call-In Phone Number: +1 720 707 2699. The last GLA board meeting lasted for 9 hours and stretched over two days, a week apart. President Gill is looking to trim the meeting duration to less than two hours.
The GLA is also looking for volunteers to serve on committees and to fill two empty board seats; one in North Glastonbury and one in South Glastonbury. Serving on the GLA board or on a committee is an excellent way to meet new people, learn about Glastonbury, and make our community better.
Time to get down to business! I have several goals for 2024:
First, I want a strong committee system. I want the committees to do the work of the GLA; to research, debate, and make well-reasoned recommendations to the Board. In turn, I want the Board to trust in the committees. I plan to create a Board meeting agenda item called “Consent Agenda.” Effectively, this will be all of the recommendations that have come up from the committees during the month.
The second goal for 2024 is to broaden participation. We need every member of the Board to recruit landowners to join committees or volunteer for a specific role or task. Everyone knows someone. Involve them. Solicit their help. Get fresh perspectives.
The third goal is communication. We need landowners to hear from us that the future will be different from the past. We need to keep all stakeholders well-informed about what is being done today, but also how the Board views the future. Let people know what we are thinking. No surprises.
Finally, and importantly, we need to carefully consider and implement professional resources in support of what the volunteer corps does. Whether it's Accounting and Tax Sercise (ATS) doing more, hiring an administrator to record meeting minutes, or deploying HOA cloud-based software, we need to strengthen our database to ensure the continuity and security of information year after year.
If we stay focused on a solution mindset, then we can accomplish great things for the community entrusted to us. I look forward to serving alongside each of my fellow Board members and benefiting from your wisdom.
