Glastonbury History - A Search for Enlightenment
Glastonbury is a puzzling community to both folks who live here and residents of Paradise Valley. It was created in the early 1980's and was believed to be a spiritual gathering place by many of the first settlers. All of the land was owned by Church Universal and Triumphant and you had to have permission from their leader, Elizabeth Clare Prophet, to settle and stay here. In the 1997 the Church and Ascended Master El Moyra decided that Glastonbury should open it's land to private owners and the general public. The Covenants were overhauled and anyone was allowed to purchase property. Many original settlers, the Church faithful, purchased their previously leased land and created a home for themselves and their families. "Outsiders", people who were not connected to Church Universal and Triumphant also started to purchase land and some quickly became neighbors.
The original settlers came from all walks of life and many countries around the world. Several That I know were born into upper middle class families with parents who were accomplished and successful. The Church Teachings spoke to them on deep personal level and drew them into a closed and spiritual community. Many settlers left after the Shelter Cycle but others stayed. When the "outsiders" came the two groups could hardly be more different and the story of Glastonbury entered a new chapter.
To understand Glastonbury and the people who call it home one must understand the history of our community. To understand is to be enlightened and that is part of the mission of the Glastonbury Community Forum. It is our hope that greater understanding will lead to greater cooperation and a community where everyone is welcome.
The best place to get started on the history of Glastonbury is read about the 1982 original Covenants. Then come back here and start to read the various historical threads and comments.

As the months roll away into years we will add commentary and articles to this category. We hope that some of the original settlers will tell their stories and provide their unique points of view. The Press was often accused of never providing fair coverage to Church Universal and Triumphant. The Forum is different for we not only seek various points of view but also make it easy for any person to respond quickly and articulately to any story we publish.
