Dear Friends,
I hardly know where to start as county events are converging more rapidly every day. The non-profit No on Ref 1, against repeal of the growth policy, have demonstrated downtown and published articles in the papers. Colin Davis and Jen Vermillion (Friends of Park County board member and candidate for county commission district #3) are the spokespeople quoted.
The PCEC, FPC and MY Land non-profits stand against our vote to repeal the growth policy. And, the latter is also against requiring a vote to adopt a new growth policy. These groups actively continue to solicit money from residents for this campaign. To date they have spent $58,649.19 against R001, our right to vote to repeal the growth policy and speak for ourselves, this coming June 4.
February’s planning board meeting was continuing discussion about writing a new growth policy and the up-coming Referendums 1 & 2. They submitted a request for direction from the commissioners.
Last Wednesday, all the county commissioners met with the planning board. Commissioner Tinsley wants to hire an outside consultant to write the new growth policy but admits the county does not have the money to pay for it. Commissioner Story wants to wait until after the June 4 election before making decisions on a new growth policy. And. commissioner Wells wants to ask the people about a consultant. The commissioners were clear that no grants would be applied for until the budget crush is solved.
The next day at the county planning board’s regular meeting, the Housing Coalition (HRDC, PCEC, PCCF, City) presented their latest plan for us. You may recall the “housing plan” was added to the growth policy last fall against heavy opposition. Number 3 on the coalition to-do list is zoning.
The planning board decided to write an outline of steps to create the new growth policy despite no funding. During public comments, Friends of Park County and PCCF jumped up with offers of money to sponsor the writing of the new growth policy!
Yet again, special interests buying their way into Park County’s future via a growth policy. This is precisely why we must vote on June 4 to repeal the current growth policy and retain the right to vote on any future ones.
Too much special interest influence. I don’t care what they call themselves and how sustainable they claim to be. All these groups want one thing: Control of your property rights. Without property rights we have no means of producing food, energy or economic prosperity. We become enslaved through sleight-of-hand planning and social engineering; usurping our rights and freedom.
Frederick von Hayek, Nobel prize-winning free-market economist, said in his book, Road to Serfdom, published in 1944: “What our generation has forgotten is that the system of private property is the most important guarantee of freedom, not only for those who own property, but scarcely less for those who do not. It is only because the control of the means of production is divided among many people acting independently that nobody has complete power over us, that we as individuals can decide what to do with ourselves.”
This is why it is so important that we vote June 4, For Repeal the growth policy, and vote For the right to vote to adopt future growth policies, thereby retaining control of our lives and families futures.
