Open GLA Board Meeting at Emigrant Hall - April 30th, 2024

The Glastonbury Landowners Association (GLA) will be holding its monthly board meeting at Emigrant Hall on Tuesday, April 30th. The meeting is open to all landowners and they are encouraged to attend. President Doug Gill has promised a more democratic and open GLA board. In February he presented a vision for the community. Open and sit-down board meetings are part of his transformation of the GLA.
The regular meeting will be preceded by a Special Board Meeting that is open to landowners. The purpose of the Special Board Meeting is to fill vacant director seats in North and South Glastonbury. Several volunteers have applied for the open seats. They will present bios, answer questions, and explain how they can assist with the heavy workload required of board members. Workloads vary but the most dedicated directors often spend 30+ hours weekly with GLA business. A few directors are serial quitters and slackers. That creates an extra burden for the more serious directors. Ideally, the number of hours spent on GLA work should be 10 to 12 hours a week including monthly meetings. Adding two new directors is expected to lessen the load for several directors and create a smoother-running and more harmonious board.
In January former GLA President Dearing scuttled Director Dirker's efforts to fill vacant board seats. Directors Jewel Wieczorek, Jaylyn Jensen, Scott Stomierowski, and Leslie Everett voted against a motion to hold a Special Meeting to fill open director positions. Directors John Carp, Doug Gill, Tim Brockett, and Jack Sutton voted to fill the vacancies. Dirkers' yes vote made 5 yes to the 5 no votes. The vote was tied, and the motion was defeated. Dearing resigned as president in late January. President Doug Gill abided by the Bylaws and made filling vacancies a priority.
All directors are volunteers and monetary compensation is prohibited.
Landowners may also call in to the meeting via Zoom. When we have that information we will share it below.
