Despite our efforts the drum of top-down planning continues its beat. At last Tuesday’s commissioner’s meeting a presentation was given to the commissioners of a so-called, systems engineering approach to our next growth policy. They were pushing a free internet model of “smart city” concepts from an international non-profit.
We all know nothing good is free. This is social-engineering pure and simple. Under a sprinkling of founder’s quotes and worthy concepts lurks the google model we are all now familiar with. They suck-up your information for what appears to be convenience.
Our phones follow us as do the advertisers. What about your smart meter for your electric service? Your phone swiping at the gas station? Technology and “science” are used as the grease and the lure to smooth the way to them knowing and controlling your life.
Link that with the recent federal announcement that no oil and gas leases will be allowed on federal land any more. No more gas stoves in some states. The smart growth/sustainability model, offered free from the international non-profit, engineers you right into their social control system. (Think social credit system in China, or de-banking right here in America.)
This one-world control has been worming its way towards us for more than 40 years. A story for another day. Please be aware. Don’t give ground.
How is it that the special-interest groups are claiming in their glossy brochures that they are more local than the residents that will actually vote on the referendums? (When in fact we know many are city residents.)
A recent letter to the editor from an anti-referendum person finally cleared that up for me. The key word is “control,” in “local control.” Not local as in people who actually live in the unincorporated county and will vote. The letter went on to list a litany of regulations their “local control” could make in the county with a growth policy in hand.
People who cannot think outside the collective, on their own, want local government and non-profits controlling everyone at their bidding. This includes telling neighbors what design standards their home must meet and how they arrange their yards and activities therein.
No live and let live, no mutual respect for others property and rights. No more good neighbors---just controlled neighbors.
I don’t think that is what you and I want. Self-reliant and resilient, we need to stand together against their collective “local-control bureaucracy” model.
Please vote FOR R-1 repeal of the growth policy and FOR R-2 requiring a people’s vote for adoption of any future growth policy.
Jeff Wagner’s 2020 petition effort was my inspiration for the referenda. His website has a good deal of excellent information and explanation on the Referenda, county zoning and growth policy. Please take a minute to read Jeff’s Inform Your Decision—What is this really all about?
His explanation really hits the nail on the head with clarity. Please share it with your friends and family. Please vote.
Best wishes and thank you,
Ann Hallowell
