Dear GLA Board and Road Committee:
The Road Minutes are incorrect for gravel allocation in South Glastonbury.
The Road Meeting Minutes of May 24th state:
SG: $350 per Load in Low SG and $400 per load in Hi SG
Aquila 1 load, $350
Hesperus 2 loads, $700
Libra Lane 2 loads, $700
Virgo Way 2 loads $700
Leo Drive 6 loads $2100
Arcturus 28 loads $9,800
Sag Skyway 6 loads $2400
Upper Hercules 6 loads $2400
Hercules 16 loads $6400
TOTAL Road Mix $25,500
Please note that Scorpio, Polaris and Sagittarius Place were included in the High South Road Maintenance request but were left out on the minutes. Leo Lane was left out of Low South figures. Also Libra Lane is in High South but the cost per load is calculated at Low South rates.
The total road mix cost of $25,500.00 was supposed to be split evenly but it was not. According to the above figures High South roads are receiving $11,900.00 worth of gravel. Low South roads are getting $13,650.00 worth of gravel. To be equal both high and low south should receive $12,750.00 each of gravel.
I suggest the following gravel distribution:
Low South
Aquila 1 load, $350.00
Hesperus 2 loads, $700.00
Leo Lane 2 loads, $700.00
Leo Drive 6 loads, $2,100.00
Virgo Way 2 loads, $700.00
Arcturus 23 loads, $8,400.00
Total is 36 loads at $350.00 per load = $12,600.00 worth of gravel.
High South
Sagittarius Skyway 6 loads at $400.00 per load
Sagittarius Place 1 load at $400.00
Upper Hercules 6 loads at $400.00
Polaris 1 load at $400.00
Scorpio 1 load at $400.00
Libra 1 loads at $400.00
* Note: Libra was incorrectly listed for 2 loads.
Lower Hercules 15 loads at $400.00
Total is 31 loads at $400.00 each = $12,400.00
Total = $25,000.00
There are also 9 loads of gravel donated for use in High South.
Wunsch - 5 loads (4 loads on Lower Hercules and 1 load on Polaris)
Tim Brockett - 2 loads on Sagittarius Skyway
Dennis Riley - 1 load wherever it is needed. I suggest Lower Hercules.
Byron Kassing 1 load on Sagittarius Skyway
Please note that in coordination with landowners, road terrain and donors I suggest that the Road Committee drop gravel and perform maintenance at specific locations in High South. They are:
Grade, and clear ditches on the left side of Hercules from Dry Creek Road until the first curve, which turns left. After the left hand curve, Hercules is straight and goes slightly uphill until the next curve, which turns right. Drop 4 loads of gravel on this section of Hercules. Check the left and right side ditches.
Running total for loads of gravel: 4
Drop 4 loads of gravel on Hercules after Suicide Curve and before, the left side driveway, at 101 Hercules. Drop 2 more loads just after the driveway at 101 Hercules. Then drop 1 load of gravel on Libra Drive where it intersects with Hercules.
Running total for loads of gravel: (4 + 7) = 11
Dennis Riley donated 1 load of gravel for Hercules. I suggest dropping it and 1 more load after where Libra intersects with Hercules, and before or in front of, where a right side driveway at 110 Hercules enters.
Running total for loads of gravel: (11 + 2) = 13
Check the right side ditches up Hercules, past a left side driveway at 135 Hercules Road and on until the road makes a sharp, right hand turn. The section of road past 135 Hercules, and before the next right hand turn is flat, and received a few loads of donated gravel in 2015. Drop 2 loads donated by Regina and Walter Wunsch, plus 2 more loads on this section.
Running total for loads of gravel: (13 + 4) = 17
Hercules climbs steeply past the right turn and then makes a 180 degree left turn. Grade and clear ditches on the left side of the road. After Hercules turns left, it climbs a slight rise, until it turns 90 degrees to the right. After the right turn Hercules levels out until it reaches the junction of Polaris and Scorpio. Drop 2 more loads donated by Regina and Walter Wunsch plus 2 more loads on this straight section.
Running total for loads of gravel: (17 + 4) = 21
Scorpio is on the left. It needs ditch cleaning on both sides of the road. Drop 1 load of gravel on Scorpio where it flattens out and the gravel thins.
Running total for loads of gravel: (21 + 1) = 22
Polaris is on the right. Drop 1 load of gravel, which was donated by Regina and Walter Wunsch, where the road flattens out and the gravel thins past the left side SpecTec driveway and before the right side driveway at 26 Polaris. Drop 1 more load of gravel past the curve and left hand driveway at 27 Polaris.
Running total for loads of gravel: (22 + 2) = 24
Hercules continues past Polaris and Scorpio. Grade and check ditches all the way to the left side of the road, log cabin at 343 Hercules. Drop 3 loads of gravel just before the first left side driveway at 343 Hercules. Then drop 3 more loads past the 2nd left side driveway entrance at 343 Hercules.
Running total for loads of gravel: (24 + 6) = 30
The maintained length of Hercules ends at the intersection of Sagittarius Place, Hercules and Sagittarius Skyway. Drop 1 load of gravel on Sagittarius Place where it intersects with Hercules from the right. The ditches along the right side of Sagittarius Place need cleaning. The culvert on the right, just before the left side driveway, at 21 Sagittarius Place also needs cleaning.
Running total for loads of gravel: (30 + 1) = 31
Grade and check the left side ditch up Sagittarius Skyway until you get past the left hand curve just after the Dome House. Drop 1 load of gravel on the straight and slightly uphill section of road that is past the Dome House. Check ditches on both sides; the right side is clogged.
Running total for loads of gravel: (31 + 1) = 32
Sagittarius Skyway turns right and flattens out. Drop 3 loads of gravel after the right hand curve and before the right side driveway at 46 Sagittarius Skyway. Update: Drop 1 more load here for a total of 4 loads of gravel. Paid for with another High South donation(Byron Kassing) on May 11, 2016.
Running total for loads of gravel: (32 + 4) = 36
Continue grading and ditch work up Sagittarius Skyway, past the right side driveway at 60 Sagittarius Skyway and past the open gate. The road climbs and then takes a 90 degree turn to the right. The road climbs while hugging a steep cut bank on the right. On the left side of the road, a steep drop off varies from 100 to 300 feet. The ditch is clogged on the right side of the road. 600 feet of guardrail are needed on the left side of the road. Drop the remaining 4 loads of gravel, 2 donated by Tim Brockett, on this section of road before the next 90 degree, left hand curve.
Running total for loads of gravel: (36 + 4) = 40
After the 90 degree left hand curve, continue grading and checking ditches. The road climbs past a left side driveway at 129 Sagittarius Skyway, then rounds a bend where a right side driveway comes in at 138 Sagittarius Skyway. From here to the end of Sagittarius Skyway the road just needs grading and the right side ditches need clearing. This is all new road that goes to a turnaround right next to a bunkhouse/garage at the end of the Sagittarius Skyway.
Please correct the errors in the official Minutes so landowners and donors can feel confident that there money is fairly shared and spent.
Sincerely,
Tim Brockett SG 88A
