Administrator's Note:The following open letter to the GLA Board was received from the Glastonbury Landowners for Positive Change.
Dear members of the Board,
I would like to request that you clearly state in your Board meeting announcements that your 406-272-4075 call in number is NOT a toll free number and that participants calling in will incur long distance charges according to their long distance service.
I called in for the June and July board meetings using my landline, because the reception is better and more reliable and incurred a charge of approximately $21 each for the board meeting in June and the one in July. Due to the billing cycle the charges for both board meetings are both on the current statement and I was not aware of this earlier.
As the GLA has stated that it is using phone meetings instead of “in person” meetings for the unforeseeable future this means landowners with poor or unreliable cell phone reception will have to pay to participate, skip the meetings or find a landowner with good reception who plans on “attending”. I personally do not find this very user friendly or fair to landowners. One would assume that since this was a Board initiated change the Board would have established a toll free call in number so every landowner could participate without incurring extra costs.
If the Board is not willing to return to “in person” meetings, it has, at the very least, the obligation to clearly advise the landowners of the limitations of their call in board meetings and clearly state in their meeting announcements that, depending on a landowner’s long distance service, charges may apply to participate in any call- in meetings initiated by the Board.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Regina Wunsch SG 72
