Yellowstone Park Fires are Exploding The fires in Yellowstone Park are consuming huge quantities of fuel and spewing smoke into Paradise Valley. The smoke is so thick that many of the surrounding mountains were obscured today. Eyes watered and stung for many people today. The fire is so enormous that it is equivalent to a Hiroshima category nuclear blast.
We snapped this photo from High South Glastonbury at 5:30 PM on August 22, 2016. The mountain just to the left of the grassy hill is Electric Peak inside Yellowstone National Park. It is about 30 miles away and is 10,969 feet tall. The fire cloud reaches at least another 15,000 to 20,000 feet above the peak. It is topping out where the cloud turns to pure white. That is where the moisture from the fire reaches cold air and is changing from steam to liquid water droplets.
