Leo Lane Fire kicks up again On Saturday September 10th fire once again visited Leo Lane in South Glastonbury. On August 18th a lightning strike ignited a grass fire that was quickly contained. The more recent fire was much larger and is still smoldering on Sunday September 11th, 2016. Eyewitness accounts thought that the recent fire burned about 20-30 acres on either side of Leo Drive. Several homes are on Leo Lane, a narrow, dead end canyon road. All survived the fire but it is expected that yards, gardens and items stored outdoors may have not been so fortunate. At 5:30 PM on Saturday a helicopter was seen dropping buckets of water on smoldering hot spots. Below is a Montana Cadastral aerial photo of the fire affected area BEFORE the blaze.

A cold front is moving in tonight. Winds are currently light and from the north. The fire could spread throughout South Glastonbury if the winds pick up in the afternoon. It will be a tense time for South Glastonbury residents until we get a soaking rain or wet snow. We will continue to follow this story and provide updates as needed.

Update from Fire Chief Michael Story Emigrant Fire Chief Michael Story reports that the Leo Lane fire was contained to 15 acres by 6 PM on Saturday. The fire was likely caused by a short in an extension cord around 3 PM on Saturday. The Fire Chief said "amazingly no structures were lost but several pieces of equipment and one car did burn". He continued "We had 6 engines from Paradise Valley, 2 engines from Rural One, 2 engines from Gateway Hose and 2 from the Forest Service. The state provided a helicopter making the total of 45 fire fighters on the incident". The fire is being monitored on Sunday with several hot spots being allowed to burn out. Much cooler weather and rain/snow is forecast for the next few days.

Administrator's Note: Daniel O'Connell asked the Forum to post the below Fire Update.
LEO LANE FIRE:
Yesterday afternoon a two alarm fire on Leo Ln. was reported at approximately 1:20 PM. Firefighters & a water drop helicopter were able to contain the fire, so that Mr. Mott's home and several other homes escaped damage. The only damage reported was a bomb shelter and a pile of junk cars. Several landowners reportedly helped create fire breaks near homes speculated that a discarded cigarette butt may have started the fire.
The fire department again encourages all homeowners in the valley to create a "defensible spaceā by removing trees, shrubs, and flammable objects within 20 feet of homes.
