Ia Williams for North Glastonbury Ombudsman
Brief background: teacher of various sorts, naturalist, yoga/meditation instructor, crisis hotline, counselor, board member for Domestic Violence Non-Profit, communicator/mediator, skilled at defining the issues and assisting parties to find solutions.
BYLAWS, ARTICLE X OMBUDSMAN...General Responsibilities of Ombudsman: to communicate with Members and residents in Glastonbury North and South, respectively, and to convey the concerns of the Members and residents, not otherwise addressed by the Board of Directors, to the Board.
In the last three or four years I've attended most board meetings as well as most committee meetings. Consequently, I am deeply aware of serious, not to mention divisive problems within our association. I am deeply aware that most landowners desist from voicing their many concerns because their experiences have revealed that the board does not listen. Frustration, as well as distrust, is high among landowners. How do I know? Because, I am in continual dialogue with many of them.
To date, observation has shown that Ombudsman is merely a token role, elected and then promptly dismissed by the board, and forgotten by landowners.
On the other hand, with a board that is truly open to hearing concerns and addressing them, and landowners who trust in the system enough to voice their concerns, there is potential for positive change, change that will benefit all landowners. I support that change. I ask for your vote.
Thank you, Ia

Of the three candidates running for North Glastonbury Ombudsman, you are the only one who is both a landowner and a full-time resident.
One of the other candidates has never been a landowner and is almost never seen at meetings of any kind, while the other candidate is only a part-time resident.
"In the last three or four years I've attended most board meetings as well as most committee meetings," as you state above. Consistently participating in the business of the GLA is an indisputably essential prerequisite for election to the office of North Glastonbury Ombudsman. The combination of your background and your commitment to listen the unheard voices of the residents in our community and to speak on their behalf, is a winning combination.
Thank you for your willingness to bridge the gap and heal the schisms so prevalent at this time in this community.
