Some GLA Board Members are Behaving Badly Do they really represent all landowners all the time? Director Kevin Newby gave a detailed and passionate presentation of his experiences with the GLA Board at the May 8th monthly meeting in Emigrant Hall. They include: - Past GLA President Charlotte Mizzi called Kevin a "rogue Board member" when he rightfully visited a property that was under unauthorized construction. Past President and current Vice-President Dan Kehoe instructed a landowner on how to evade paying a second assessment. Mr Kehoe looked a tad contrite during Kevin's presentation but no apology was forthcoming.
- Director Newby claims he was lied to by fellow directors Rudy Parker and his stepson, director Ed Dobrowski. Rudy was also accused of stating that "a GLFPC member will serve on the Board only over his dead body". What Rudy may have been planning is not clear but he certainly did not have the best interests of the GLFPC or it's many landowner supporters in mind. The Forum has confirmed that director Ed Dobrowski deliberately withheld gravel, grading and snow plowing services from High South landowners during his tenure as South Glastonbury Road Chairman and Snowplowing Coordinator.
- Kevin also revealed that two current Board members stand accused of trespassing on landowner property and that an investigation is ongoing. The Forum has confirmed this.
- The gossip, innuendo and slander reached a new low at the May meeting. Kevin spoke with director Paul Rantallo before the meeting who told him that the Sheriff wanted to speak to him. According to Director Paul Rantallo Kevin had a restraining order and lawsuit pending against him. When Kevin asked where he heard that from, Paul would not say. Later, a landowner who is the husband of a former GLA president, accused Kevin Newby of having a high powered telescope in his home and of using it to spy on the landowner's teenage daughter. He said that he heard that from four different people. When asked who those four people were the landowner declined to answer. To his credit he later apologized to Director Newby. The Forum has investigated both accusations and has found them to be baseless gossip and character assassination.

Who ever would have thought that the GLA Board would have acted like a kangaroo court? That man should have been stopped immediately. To allow him to proceed was reprehensible and all the board members should be ashamed of themselves. It had NOTHING to do with GLA business. I ran into (not with my car) the man who asked the question of Kevin, after the meeting, at the post office. I told him it was a cheap shot he took at Kevin and should never have been brought up at a GLA meeting. It was character assignation plain and simple. I also told him "those" people who told him or implied that Kevin was watching his underage daughter...(and how would they know unless they were watching Kevin)...were cowards! I told him I too have a powerful scope and binoculars and did those people want to accuse me of something? He also told me that his son had called the Sheriff on Kevin because he "felt" he was being watched!! Of course he's being watched!!! Look around...you can't live here WITHOUT looking...there are eyes everywhere for heavens sake! I have deer, rabbits, birds and people watching when I'm outside all the time!! I don't know of anyone who lives here that DOES NOT have a scope or binoculars and are "looking" at everything!!!! Isn't that why we all live here? Obviously this man should have more sense than to listen to people who want to stay anonymous and without proof. That should have told this man something about the character of those individuals or the lack of character. Cowards and weasels all of them and it sounds like mental and moral deficiency to me. If someone had done something like that to my husband or I they would be hearing from our attorneys so fast their collective heads would be spinning! One thing I have learned about Kevin Newby is that he is the most up front, professional, efficient and sincere board of directors I have ever seen in the 13 years we've lived here. Truth, hard work and especially transparency is what I have observed in any meeting where Kevin is involved. It seems to me that the people who have run this association for so many years are really afraid of Kevin. It's hard for people who've worked in the dark to have light shined in their eyes and that is what I see Kevin doing...bringing this association into the professional light. I'm hoping it will be run by "normal" standard business practices. It's easy to profess love, peace, light and harmony but as seen by actions not practiced at all. Sally Muto

Reminder to ALL directors and landowners: "When the light of truth shines, cockroaches scurry." If you are scurrying to cover your tracks, everyone can see it plain as day. Binoculars or scopes are not needed. The major problem in the world today is the rampant dishonesty throughout all institutions and societies, including Glastonbury! I agree that Kevin Newby is one of the better directors that the GLA has had in the nine years that I have lived here. I also find it amazing that the board has only just recently established an ethics and education committee to hopefully guide directors on a path of professionalism and integrity, largely due to Newby's admonishments and president Riley's suggestions at this May board meeting. It's about time!

GLA Board May 8th Meeting GLFPC Summary Now Available The Glastonbury Landowners for Positive Change (GLFPC) Summary of the GLA May 8th, 2017 Board meeting is now available.
Key points are:
- A North Glastonbury (NG) landowner filed a formal complaint involving three board members who are allegedly trespassing, and damaging her property. This landowner called for the suspension of Charlotte Mizzi, Paul Ranttalo, and Gerald Dubiel. The board delayed handling this serious issue at Mizzi’s behest, due to her continued and indefinite absence.
- For many years, Ranttalo has paid one assessment. But, this has come into question. When asked directly whether he had two dwelling units on his property, Ranttalo was stone-cold silent.
- The era of maintaining roads for Golden Age Village (GAV) is over. Updated research shows that GLA never had a legally-binding maintenance agreement with GAV.
- There is a new vacancy on the GLA Board. South Glastonbury landowners may apply to be appointed by a majority vote of the board.
- Steadfast in his declaration, President Dennis Riley spoke of the fiduciary duties incumbent upon all directors to uphold the highest standard of conduct.
- A much-anticipated legal opinion about the “Confidentiality Stamp” on board emails has finally been resolved. The restrictive banner across the face of all board emails is now history.
