Road Committee Meeting on Friday July 14, 2017
5:30 to 6:30 PM road tour - meet in front of Liberty Hall in North Glastonbury at 5:30
Then a 6:30 to 8 PM sit down meeting at 10 Gemini Road. That is the first right side driveway going up Gemini Road from Capricorn.
************** Thursday Evening Update - The correct time is 5:30 to 8 PM. Attendees are to meet in front of Liberty Hall and then drive around to inspect the roads. Then at 6:30 everyone will gather at Sally and Chuck Muto's house on 10 Gemini Road for a sit down meeting. The public is invited to attend and ask questions. *******
The Road Committee will be reviewing the recent grading, graveling and ditch work done in North Glastonbury.
Director Richard Johnson will start with a tour of Church Universal and Triumphant's private access road; the gravel portion of Sirius Drive. GLA Landowners funded the upgrade and recent maintenance of several CUT private roads including Sirius Drive and Aries Road. Your chance to view these fine roads and ask questions will be at the Road Committee meeting.
The gravel portion of Sirius Drive is a private sub-division road that services the church's commercial venture, Golden Age Village. Do you live on a sub-division road? Did you know that landowners on sub-division roads pay almost 40% of the total assessments? However no sub-division roads, except the church owned one, receive any maintenance or snow plowing. How do you feel about that? Should one landowner receive preferential treatment while others receive nothing?
Norm the grader operator will also be there and available for questions. GLA President Dennis Riley has promised to attend and most of the Road Committee members are expected to attend. They need to hear from you.
Earlier this week the Forum ran an article about how the $78,900.00 2017 Spring Grading contract was mysteriously altered. We also talked about how CUT wants lifetime free maintenance for their private roads and how that was provided once again this year. Who altered the contract and why? Who made the decision to provide free maintenance to CUT for their private roads? The Road Committee was never made aware of either situation until after the fact. They never had an opportunity to vote and landowners were denied the opportunity to participate. Both unilateral decisions cost landowners assessment dollars. Now is your chance to ask questions and solve an expensive mystery.
If you live in North Glastonbury how was your road maintained this year? Are the washboards gone? Is the road surface smooth and the ditches clean? Has the recent thunder showers drained away nicely or are they running over the road and eroding it? Is your yard flooding from road over wash or poor road drainage? Did you get fresh gravel and grading this year? All platted roads were included in the contract. Let the Road Committee know what you think of the state of North Glastonbury roads and how they may be improved. Share your thoughts on lifetime free maintenance, courtesy of all GLA landowners, for all church private roads.
If you cannot make it to the Road Committee meeting please share your thoughts at the next GLA Board Meeting on Monday July 17th, 7 to 11 PM at Emigrant Hall.
