How To Add a Link To Your Post
You want to pen a clever reply to a thread but you also want to add a link that readers can click on for more information that backs up your argument. How do you do that?
Congratulations! You just created your first link!
Links are very helpful to readers of the Forum. You may use them to reference other Forum articles or any web address.
- This is an advanced topic and you should be a Forum member before trying it. Why? Only Forum members are allowed to edit their original posts and correct errors. If you make a post as a guest and then make an error you will not be able to correct it.
- Open a new window in your browser by clicking here.
- In the new browser window the Forum will appear. Go to the post that you wish to reply to. Write your reply but do not post it yet. Click on the "Preview" button in the lower left hand corner.
- Keep this window open so you can switch between these instructions and your post.
- Open a third window in your browser and go to the page you wish to link your post to.
- Come back to your post. Bring your mouse pointer to the text you want included in your link. Eg; Click here...
- Hold down the right mouse button and drag your pointer over the text. It will be highlighted in blue.
- Click on the blue-green Earth and Document "Link" button from the above menu. A box will pop up that has two lines: Text and URL.
- The text you highlighted should appear in the text line. If not, close the box by clicking on the right corner X and start over at # 6.
- Go to the web page you want to link to. In the Address Bar will be the URL(Universal Record Locator)of the web page. Move your mouse pointer over the URL. Left click and the entire address should become highlighted in blue. On a Windows platform, hold down the "Ctrl" key and tap once an the "c" key. The "Ctrl" key is in the lower left corner of your keyboard. That will store or "copy" the URL address to your computer's clipboard.
- Go back to your post and move your mouse pointer to the URL box in the Link popup window. Left click once and then erase the "http://" with the backspace key on your keyboard. The backspace key is just above the "Enter" key.
- Then hold down the "Ctrl" key and tap once the "v" key. That will "paste" the complete URL address into the popup box.
- Hover the mouse pointer over the "Create Link" button. Click the right mouse button once. The pop-up box should close and your link should appear in light blue.
