Road Committee Receives Funding for More Snow Fencing The Road Committee received $3,500.00 in extra funding to complete South Glastonbury snow fencing and commence work in North Glastonbury. The work in North Glastonbury will consist of:
1. Top of Sirius Hill - Replace 263 feet of original fencing and extend each row by 75 feet.
2. Aquarius Lane opposite the Duffy’s – 300 feet of new fencing.
3, Top of the North entrance – 80 feet of new fencing.
4. Aries Road gravel section – 250 feet of new fencing.
300 feet of snow fencing remains to be installed by Dry Creek Road in South Glastonbury. Old fencing is catching the drifts for now.
Nicknamed the "Can Do Committee" the revamped 2017 Road Committee is slowly earning a reputation for getting things done and coming in with under budget costs. They reported that both projects approved at the October GLA Board meeting were completed. Aerial map booklets are now available for snow plow drivers and contractors that need to know exactly where the end of the Glastonbury platted roads are. A gate was purchased and installed on Storey Ranch property so the Can Do committee has access for installing snow fencing and barriers. Both projects came in under projected costs and were completed by volunteer landowners. Leo Keeler designed the aerial maps. Bob Sones, Jeff Riederer and Tim Brockett installed the gate.
The snow fence materials will be ordered immediately and work will commence upon their arrival. The snow fencing is expected to pay for itself many times over by reducing drifts and subsequent plowing. All of the new snow fencing will be mounted on pressure treated 2x4's bolted to T posts and raised 12 inches above the ground. The 4 foot slatted snow fence will sit securely on top of the 2x4 and is expected to last 10 years or more.
