High South Snow Report for December 13th, 2015 2 PM Update

The National Weather Service in Billings has issued a Winter Weather Warning. It follows:

...Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from late tonight through Tuesday morning...

* Impacts...hazardous travel conditions are possible across the area tonight through Tuesday morning due to the possibility of heavy snowfall.

* Timing...snow will develop west of Billings tonight and spread east across the area on Monday. The snow will continue...heavy at times...through Monday night and taper off from west to east Tuesday.

* Snow accumulation...6 to 10 inches with locally higher amounts...especially over the north slopes of the Beartooth... Absaroka and Bighorn Mountains.

* Blowing snow...gusty north to northwest winds at 15 to 30 mph will combine with the snow to create poor visibility. Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning is issued when severe winter weather is imminent. At this time there is a potential for significant snow. Future driving and walking conditions may become hazardous so it is important to monitor the latest forecasts.

High South Snow Report for December 14th, 2015 7:30 AM

The National Weather Service in Billings has issued a Winter Storm Warning until Tuesday at 6 PM. They are predicting 6 to 9 inches of snow with blowing winds.

* At High South the temperature is currently 26 degrees. A fine, light and steady snow is falling. 2 inches have accumulated by 7:30 AM. The snow is light and dry. No drifting yet.

* This afternoon I must travel to the Post Office to drop off many book orders my customers have placed over the weekend. I will update you on specific road conditions after I return around 4 PM. I will post all reports on the Glastonbury Community Forum as well as emailing them to everyone on the High South snow report email list.

* A new volunteer, Dorothy Keeler, will be posting snow reports from Low South. If anyone in North Glastonbury would like to become an official snow reporter please email us at glastonburycommunityforum@gmail.com for details and to volunteer.

* I urge the GLA Board Road Committee to create a post on the Glastonbury Community Forum under the Road Committee category. Title it "Snow Plowing Updates for December 14th, 2015" and provide updated snow plowing information via frequent posts throughout and after the storm. Many landowners have mobile devices and carry them in their cars. Updated plowing information would provide a valuable community service and make travel safer for everyone.

High South Snow Report and Plowing Update for December 14th, 2015 4:30 PM

The National Weather Service in Billings still has a Winter Storm Warning until Tuesday at 6 PM. They are still predicting 6 to 9 inches of snow with blowing winds.

* At High South the temperature is currently 29 degrees. A fine, light and steady snow is falling. 3 1/2 inches have accumulated by 4:30 PM. The snow is light and dry. Some small drifts are starting to form.

* I just came back from the Post Office in Emigrant. As I came down Sagittarius Skyway I met Fred, the GLA snow plow driver, coming up the road. Fred had finished North Glastonbury and Low South. Now he was finishing up High South. The GLA platted roads looked good all the way down to the County road, Dry Creek. Hercules was sanded on the corners. Arcturus looked fine as I passed it going down Dry Creek Road.

* Myron Moorman, a High South resident, purchased a plow for his truck and graciously plowed Sagittarius Place and upper Hercules to Spectec. That stretch of road gets little sun and the snow rarely melts until spring. Snow banks that turn into little glaciers are a constant problem. If Upper Hercules is not frequently plowed the road narrows and a grader must be called in. Myron often travels and thus is not able to plow for every storm but will volunteer whenever he can. Myron's efforts are greatly appreciated. A big thank-you to Myron!

* Dry Creek Road was snow packed and had patches of ice. Some patches were big enough to spin a car around on. 89 was mostly clear going towards Emigrant center but snow packed and with ice patches coming back to Glastonbury.

* The next snow report will be on Tuesday morning if the storm continues.

High South Snow Report for December 15th, 2015 9:00 AM

The National Weather Service in Billings has cancelled the Winter Storm Warning

* At High South the temperature is currently 17 degrees. The snow has ended and blue patches of sky are peeking through the clouds. 6 inches of snow has fallen since this storm started.

* More snow is in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday. I will create a report if we get 2 inches or more, or if drifting starts to cover some roads with snow.

* Last night I received a Snow Plow Summary via email. The summary was essentially a detailed invoice of snow plowing and sanding by the GLA truck and driver throughout the day. It is interesting and reassuring but....the information contained would be far more useful if it was posted on the Forum throughout the day as the services listed were completed. For your reference a copy of the invoice is at the bottom of this post.

* Since the GLA Board is receiving this email I continue to urge the Road Committee to create a post on the Glastonbury Community Forum under the Road Committee category. Hello Glastonbury Neighbors,

Here is the breakdown of the plowing & sanding for today, December 14, 2015.

6-8:00 AM plowed and sanded NG hills and intersections. This took two loads of sand.

9-10:30 plowed and sanded Arcturus and Leo Drive

10:30-4:30 plowed and sanded Hercules, plowed Scorpio, Polaris and Sagittarius Skyway.
Cleared 18” drifts from Sag. Skyway
Used a total of 2 loads of sand in SG and High SG.

4:30-6:00 NG Cleaned up hills and intersections, plowing and sanding,
plowed side roads and Capricorn, Gemini and Caspari Way
Upper Gemini is very rough. The driver has to slow to 5 MPH and raise the plow and still hits big rocks.
Upper Gemini will need gravel in the spring to prevent damage to our plow and truck.

Our driver will keep an eye on drifts and ice over the next few days. Plowing drifts and sanding as needed.

Please be aware of ever changing road conditions and drive cautiously.
