Mark Seaver Resigns From the Communications Committee
GLA Director Mark Seaver has resigned from the Communications and Technology Committee. Seaver was in charge of the GLA web site and completely rebuilt it during his tenure. He was also GLA Treasurer for 6 months before Regina Wunsch assumed the job.
The Forum asked Mark Seaver why he resigned from the committee. He replied "I resigned because in the last 3 meetings, going back to last fall, the committee has been stymied with respect to getting the items on the agenda taken care of. That makes it a huge waste of my time".
When queried about the underlying problems with the Communications Committee Mark said "The underlying problem is a community where nastiness dominates the majority of conversations and many on all sides of any issue insist that only their complete satisfaction is an acceptable solution. That's an approach to governing (and community building) that I do not wish to be part of".
It has often been said that politics is a blood sport and that is certainly true in Glastonbury. Change does not come easily and both sides are determined. One side believes in the rule of law and wants to enforce the governing documents. The other side pines for the good old days when only CUT adherents were allowed to live in Glastonbury and miscreants could have their property sold by the church and be kicked out of the community. Ultimately the ballot box is where the battles will be decided.
We asked Mark if he was planning on running for director again in the June elections. He replied "I'm debating with myself about running again".
Mark Seaver has a PHD in Chemical Physics. He adds "education level has no bearing on whether someone is broadly capable of careful thinking".
