Wicked Squall Downs Power Lines in Emigrant A fierce and long lasting spring squall downed power lines in Emigrant last night and blacked out parts of Glastonbury for almost three hours. The storm pelted High South Glastonbury with fierce winds and horizontal, blowing wet snow. Around 10 PM the winds subsided and the lights came back on. Windows on the northwest side of my home were covered with snow. Drifts lined the road and crept across my driveway.
Morning's light revealed wet snow caked to structures and tree trunks. Four inches of fresh snow was added to the existing 2 and 3 foot drifts. About 18 to 24 inches of snow still covered most of the yard. In Emigrant at least one major power pole was completely down while another tottered in the distance. Storey Road was closed and all North Glastonbury traffic was directed to the north entrance. ![](http://www.timslife.com/Forum/images/roads/2018-04-08.jpg)

An inquisitive Forum reader sent us a link to an interesting article on Micro-bursts. She reasoned that we may have had a wet one last night. The winds were powerful and in High South Glastonbury came roaring out of the north west.

When the Forum visited the Post Office on Monday April 9th, 2018 at 3 PM the road was open. One power pole was replaced as it completely snapped in two. Several others teetered but were being shored up. Power lines were raised above Storey Road and were not charged.
