CHRISTAL O'CONNELL for North Glastonbury Ombudsman
Here's why I am running for Ombudsman: as a native Montanan C Justice student, I think our community is wonderful, but has room to improve. I propose to have regular landowner meetings to resolve all member issues prior to going to court. Plus our current Ombudsman- John Carp isn't a landowner. An ombudsman should have a land stake in our community. Otherwise they have no apparent motivation to help landowners, even with the recent rash of legal disputes. For instance, CUT and Ranttalo now report both may sue GLA Board that will cost thousands of dollars that GLA cannot afford. GLA Board already spent over 15K of your assessment monies to fight Kathleen Rakela who won her lawsuit against GLA Board. Rakela said GLA failed to heed "Val O'Connell notifying them of possible legal liability: with Rakela. The Court agreed to adding Rakela back on GLA election ballot. Sworn Court affadavit explains Rakela filed her lawsuit, "Because of the ... failure of the board to follow the GLA Bylaws and Montana state law in their vote to disqualify and remove me from the ballot. I have been vilified in the community through blogs and emails" even by Board members she named. This is a sad breakdown in member trust of Board members, because no one should be vilified for standing up for their members rights. We need an Ombudsman that will protect members. Please vote for me-Christal as Ombudsman, and I promise to hold public meetings for all GLA members to help protect against such abuses. If this sounds like the solution that you want: to have member meetings several times a year to resolve member issues, than please vote for me- Christal as your next Ombudsman. And on behalf of my younger generation, thank you for your vote.
