Federal Bases May be used to Export Montana Coal Montana and Wyoming have huge reserves of coal and the export market is booming. Unfortunately we cannot easily store the coal and load it to Asia bound ships because the west coast states are blocking permits for transfer stations in deep water ports. In an end run around these states the Trump administration is considering using federal land and working with private industry to build coal storage and shipping facilities. Montanans would directly benefit from job opportunities, an improved economy and state taxes on coal.
