Internet Service Providers Internet access is available by at least 4 methods in Glastonbury:
- Land Line Dial Up - this uses existing copper phone cables buried in the ground that access almost every Glastonbury property. Speeds are slow.
- Microwave - Wisp West delivers service via several microwave towers that offer direct line of sight service. Speeds are fast but your property must be in a direct line of sight with a tower. To a lesser degree intense rain can absorb some of the microwave energy but Glastonbury rarely gets heavy rains of long duration.
- Cell Phone Coverage is also available form most of Glastonbury. Like microwave service you must have a good line of sight to a cell phone tower.Speeds are comparable to microwave service. This is a good option for folks who have summer homes and spend limited time in Glastonbury.
- Satellite Service - almost all of Glastonbury has a clear view to the southern sky and thus can receive internet via satellite service. Intense weather can interfere and snow can clog a satellite dish. There is a small lag time too because the satellite is 23,000 miles away.
The internet service providers we have used are Hughes Net for satellite and Wisp West for microwave. Other services are available and readers are encouraged to provide names, contact information and rate their experiences below.
Hughes Net was good. They provided a dish and free installation. Call them at 844-220-9818 or visit them online at www.hughesnetnation.com We currently use Wisp West and the service is very good. They offer a range of speeds via different plans. Call them at (406) 222- 5454 or visit them online at www.wispwest.net

Dr. Carl J. Roth at Bridger Eyecare Doctor Carl Roth has an impressive resume and employs the latest equipment. He is a native of Sheridan, Wyoming and I found him quite easy to communicate with. His prices are higher than budget eye care places but his service is excellent. You can get a budget eye exam at Walmart for $80.00 or you can get a professional eye exam with Doctor Roth for $180.00. Pricey but I felt that I received excellent service, an accurate and thorough exam.
His website is at www.bridgereyecare.com/
Call his office at (406)200-8886. He is located in the cannery district in Bozeman by I-90 and Rouse Avenue.

Need New Eyeglasses? Try This Place... I purchased my last set of eyeglasses at Walmart in Bozeman. They were titanium frames and standard lenses with an anti-glare coating. I paid about $150.00 which was much less than the $300.00 I paid at Pearle Vision a few years back.
In 2018 I decided to try purchasing eyeglasses online. After studying several web sites and checking their guarantees or lack thereof I settled upon 39dollarglasses.com . They offered a 30 day money back guarantee and had a wide range of frames to choose from. I purchased another set of titanium frames and was amazed at the price; $59.99 WITH anti-glare lenses. After I started to check out the site offered me a second pair at 50% off. So I purchased the same frame but with polarized sun glass lenses.
It took about a week for 39 Dollar Glasses to build and ship my glasses. They arrived today at my PO Box and look great. I tried them on, bent the ear hooks to fit my face and started to see everything a bit easier. The frames are better quality than the Walmart ones and cost less. The lenses are light poly carbonate and nicely coated. I should get 5 years out of them.
To order online you will need a copy of your eyeglass prescription and you will need to know the distance in millimeters between your pupils. You can measure the distance with a friend or simply ask your eye doctor.

Just Purchased Propane for $1.28 a Gallon - May 2019 I just purchased propane at $1.28 a gallon from Madison River Propane in Belgrade. They seem to run a very efficient operation and pass the savings on to their customers.
I initially called them at (406)388-8227 after receiving a post card advertisement in the mail. They offer prepayment plans and Summer Fill specials. I have two above ground 1,000 gallon tanks that I own. I usually have to fill them just once a year.
For June, traditionally the time of year when propane costs the least, Madison River is offering 40 cents off a gallon if you pay within 10 days. That brings the price down to $1.28 a gallon. You can pay with a charge card too.
After I spoke with Madison River Propane they suggested that I go to their website at madisonriverpropane.com/service/ and fill out a new account form. A day later they processed my application and called me. The process was easy and quick. In a few days they will deliver propane and I should be set for the winter.

Non-paved Private Road and Driveway Resources
Need assistance maintaining a non-paved private road or long driveway?
The best base for a private road is 3-inch angular rock, like what you see under railroad tracks. For under 10,000 pound vehicles a single layer of 3-inch angular smoothed with one inch of 1-inch washed gravel will provide a solid and dry base. If you have heavier trucks or construction equipment increase the 3-inch angular first layer to six inches deep. On top of the 1-inch washed gravel place three to six inches of Road Mix from Durgan's Rockpile quarry.
Private driveways that see light use can get by with a 3-inch layer of washed 1-inch gravel covered with 3 to 6 inches of Road Mix.
Durgan's Quarry usually has all 3 rock sizes in stock. They can give you the names of truckers who can deliver the rocks to your site.
June is the best month for working on gravel roads. July and August are the next best months.
Contact Larry Durgan at (406)222-0525 for more information regarding rock availability and cost.
Need Help With Keeping Road Dust To A Minimum?
Mag Chloride is widely used in Montana as a dirt/gravel road treatment to keep the dust down while improving the longevity and durability of the road. The best time to apply mag chloride is June when there is still some residual moisture left in the roadbed. Mag Chloride is dribbled onto the road by a water truck. If the road is damp or per-moistened the mag chloride will seep further into the road surface. Mag chloride is a salt and attracts moisture from the air. It uses air moisture to form a chemical bond with soil particles which creates a hard road surface. Generally, it is applied once a year in the spring.
DD Enterprises in Bozeman services Paradise Valley. Call them at (406)220-0755 for more information. Or visit their website here. SubStrata makes an enzyme based road dust control product that looks promising. We do not know anyone who uses it in Paradise Valley though. Visit their website for more information.
