Administrator's commentary: Within the first few minutes of last Monday night’s telephone GLA Board meeting, there was talk of not opening up job of Administrative Assistant to landowners. The stated reason was that the information that Administrative Assistant handles would be too sensitive for landowners to read.
This was later countered with the line of reasoning, saying that if anyone should have the position it should be a landowner because landowners have a vested interest in the community in which they live.
What was missed in my opinion, was that the initial action of a few Board members was to prevent landowners from seeing "confidential" information by not allowing landowners to apply for the job. Think about that. Substitute "black" or "Irish" or "outsider" for landowner. This is classic discrimination, quite illegal, morally reprehensible and yet seen as legitimate by a few GLA Board members. It also raises the question that what exactly is in the Board documents that needs to be concealed from the landowners at all costs? No director called out this troubling behavior but the GLFPC duly noted it in their excellent meeting summary.
